Nicole Ari Parker has worked in television, film and also on stage. The actress is best known for her character Teri (the spirited attorney) Joseph. Following her wedding, she was Nikki Kodjoe. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. At the Maryland high school contest at the beginning of her schooling, she won the prize for the best actress. The path to acting began when she joined the Washington Ballet Company as well as theatre. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was her first major performance. Contractor, a Mumbai-born Indian and who was a resident of Nigeria from the time she was seven years old, had a lot of knowledge about the world's cultures, and traveled extensively in such a short time. The boarding school she attended was in London between the ages of seven and nine, after which her family moved to Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor was a successful academic at the University of Toronto Toronto and also trained as a ballerina. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts, a specialized public arts high school in which she did not only dance but also studied theatre. Contractor started acting at the age of 16 and was a part of the theater for a decade after spending ten years of dancing. When she graduated from high school, Contractor was awarded a scholarship by the University of Toronto to pursue the dual field of psychology and sociology. In addition, she obtained a Master's degree in Theatre. After one semester at the University, Contractor went to an open audition for the play Pericles at the prestigious, world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the lead role. The play received rave reviews and her performances during the 92 performances that the play was voted"the best show of 2002" by Canadian reviewers in 2002. The actress accepted an invitation to enroll in Stratford's conservatory, a program where only four men and eight women can take an intensive 20-week training in classical theater. Contractor was offered a place for the next season. She was also offered the part of Hermia.
